GARUDA POWAAAAAAA – SUPER MAN INDONESIA Third – and final – chapter of a curious focus on soon-to-be-released super hero flicks after my latest updates about GUNDALA, VALENTINE (and VOLT) super hero komik book adaptations. GARUDA SUPER HERO is NOT a komik adaptation, but an original creation. Bara is a young man like others – unless he becomes really mad and / or has to save the world…Then he develops super powers, which comes quite handy, especially when bad guy KING and his companions steal a powerful weapon, which was designed to preserve earth from a wave of asteroids. Instead of exploding the stellar rocks, KING blackmails world presidents in order to become rich. Luckily GARUDA SUPER HERO takes things in his own hands. Film director X-JO tried to direct GARUDA SUPER HERO for over ten years now – but no Indonesian movie studio didn’t dare invest money in this daring project. Daring project, since most sequences have been shot in front of a green screen and requested a lot of CGI post-production. Well, you can see its result in the brand-new trailer…which comes as one of the biggest CGI-driven productions, but still not on par with other Asian blockbusters (Korea, Japan, China…) and definitely centuries away from latest Hollywood-driven movies. Other things I’m quite afraid of are the facts that main parts are being played by TOP MODEL & MAN OF THE YEAR 2012 Rizal Alaydrus (which complained a lot about difficulty to play in front of green screen, wearing a badly-designed suit and having only two weeks to learn martial arts…) and singer ALEXA…I hope those beauties also know how to act. And as much as I respect director X-Jo for having brought his dream project to the big screen after 10 years of struggle, WHY does he have to use such a ridiculous pseudonym and how can producers entrust such a big-budget project requiring a lot of technological knowledge to a complete film novice? Producers are Putaar Productions, which didn’t produce the best of movies until now, but – at least – go for diversity with melodramas Kun Fayakuun (2008) and Pengejar Angin (2011), epic story Gending Sriwijaya (2013) and hip hop action / comedy Tak Sempurna (2013). GARUDA SUPER HERO cast also includes Slamet Rahardjo, Robby Sugara, Piet Pagau, Agus Kuncoro, Kia Putri, Inzalna Balqis, Alexa Key and Diaz Ardiawan.
