Bravado! is one of the most unique community choirs in Canada.....and its from right here, in Barrie!!!! Bravado! adds choreography, staging, costuming, lighting, themed programming and storyline into its self-scripted shows while performing accessible, familiar choral works and songs. Bravado! is like a combination of traditional choir, music theatre and rock/pop/jazz/gospel choir. Bravado! breaks the rules of choir and creates original, entertaining art in the process. Formed in 1996 with a vision towards creating a multi-artistic experience, Bravado! layers vocal excellence and a contemporary repertoire in unique and engaging ways. Bravado! performs all music from memory, getting off the page and allowing a more personal connection with their audience. Bravado! regularly collaborates with other artists, dance troupes, poets, visual artists and instrumentalists to delight its audiences with diverse, adventurous and unforgettable programs. An example our unique programming was a last years World Music-based Christmas program that featured harmonic overtone singing, choral improvisation and the music of winter festivals from around the world. Bravado!s last spring show was an all-Canadian program, entitled Trans-Canada Playlist, which started off with the Down East sounds of Don Messer, complete with step dancing, and wound its way across Canada with pieces by Eleanor Daley, Mark Sirett, Serena Ryder, Men Without Hats, Leonard Cohen, Knaan, The Sheepdogs, Michael Buble, and Gordon Lightfoot. Don Messer, Eleanor Daily, the Sheepdogs??!!!??? How does that happen in a choir concert!? Well, thats just typical of the quirky, adventurous style of Bravado! Bravado!s 30+ members are auditioned for this SATB choir and range in age from 17 to 60+ years old. They are led by Artistic Director Scott Boyer, and Music Director Katie Pergau.
