GLOBAL NEWS UPDATES… Rollo Armstrong Producer extraordinaire Rollo Armstrong (Dido, Faithless, U.T.R.B) tells A&R Worldwide that he will be releasing a new single that features poet Kate Tempest via Greco-Roman, which is the label of Joe Goddard / Disclosure. The single is a part of an album with features additional vocals from U.T.R.B, Faris Badwan from The Horrors and Marshall Jefferson. Incidentally, U.T.R.B which was featured in the A&R Worldwide newsletter as an unsigned act back in 2011 has just signed with Virgin Records UK President Ted Cockle and the US release (as mentioned here a few months ago) will come out via Republic/Universal. U.T.R.B and Rollo are managed by Craig Newman (ATC Management). Swedish act Fou De Toi tells A&R Worldwide that they have signed a multi-single deal with the independent Australian label Possum Records recently. The band which was featured in the A&R Worldwide newsletter earlier this year has been recording its debut album. Fou De Toi has also been garnering interest from labels within the US; they are currently published worldwide by Warner-Chappell Music Scandinavia. Universal Music Group (UMG) has promoted Carl Park to Sr. VP Finance, East Coast Labels, it was announced today by Joseph Schmidt, Chief Financial Officer, East Coast Labels, to whom he reports. UMG’s East Coast Label Group includes the Island Def Jam Music Group and Republic Records. Among the areas under Park’s purview are label forecasting, planning and analysis, actuals reporting, deal and pricing analysis as well as T&E and AG policy enforcement. Park will continue to be based in the company’s New York office. Independent worldwide publisher peermusic has expanded its UK roster with the announcement of recent signings including Tom Wilding, Joseph Addison, Arjun Selvarajah and Wally Badarou. Wilding has just finished writing and producing Gabrielle Aplin’s debut album English Rain, which entered the UK’s Official Album Chart at No.2 back in May of this year. Don Cannon Def Jam Recordings has announced the appointment of award-winning record producer and DJ Don Cannon to VP A&R, it was announced today by Karen Kwak, Executive VP/Head of A&R, Island Def Jam Music Group. Cannon will oversee current and new artist projects and will actively seek out, discover and sign new talent to the label. Based in Atlanta, Cannon will report directly to Kwak, while working closely with Steve Bartels, President & COO, Island Def Jam Music Group. As one of the world’s most well-known and highly respected celebrity DJs and producers, the Grammy-nominated “DJ Don” Cannon has worked alongside a who’s who of hip-hop’s most innovative artists, from Def Jam artists Pusha T, Jeezy, Nas, 2 Chainz, Rick Ross, Ludacris and Big Sean to Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Kendrick Lamar, OutKast, T.I, the Game, 50 Cent and more. Swedish artist Tove Lo who was featured in the A&R Worldwide newsletter earlier this year has been the focus of intense label interest globally. Her single, “Habits,” has been generating strong radio support throughout Scandinavia as well as internationally via the influential syndicated tastemaker international music program Passport Approved. Heathers Following the success of the single “Forget Me Knots,” from their Choice Music-nominated second album Kingdom, the Brian Scally (Milestone Music Management)-represented band Heathers are continuing their international success and have now signed a deal with Warner Music Germany for the whole of Central Europe, which will include releasing the new album in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Poland. This follows the girls’ recent signing to Sony Music Canada back in March and is part of their on-going campaign to release Kingdom worldwide. Brian Scally tells A&R Worldwide there is already strong interest from a number of US-based labels. Heathers’ music has been featured on “90210” in the US, as well as other placements on the very successful US TV show “Mob Wives” on VHI, “The Voice,” “X Factor,” “Waterloo Road” and various other TV shows in the UK. Recently the band were invited to LA to perform at the pre-Oscars party hosted by Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrams The first single to be released in Central Europe is “It’s Alright Not To Feel OK (Forget Me Knots)” on July 26. There’s a slew of interest developing from US-based companies on an unsigned, unpublished and non-booked British singer/songwriter who has been called a cross between Adele and Lily Allen. Stay tuned as we share more information in the near future. Kingswood Unsigned Australian rock band Kingswood continues to develop strong international A&R, publisher and agent interest. The band has been supported by the renowned Triple J Radio network’s Richard Kingsmill as well as the influential commercial radio network Austereo programming chief Guy Dobson. Kingswood tell A&R Worldwide that they are making plans to be in the US this fall and are currently working with TKO’s Andrew Goodfriend in the US for various live dates. With the resurgence of guitar bands and a great 2014 on the horizon for “rock,” Kingswood’s timing could not be more perfect to impact a rock-hungry music world. T3 Media’s Sr. Rights Clearance Manager Georgette Bivins tells A&R Worldwide that she will be leaving the company to join the global brand agency Deutsch, Inc. as its Business Affairs Manager commencing July 12. British rock band These Reigning Days (thesereigningdays.co.uk) have been continuing to build label, publisher and booking agent interest after their recent show at the San Siro Stadium in Italy where they opened up as support for Bon Jovi at the 80,000 seat venue. The band played in front of tens of thousands of fans and has just been offered several other festival dates across Europe as a result. In addition, they will perform on the main stage prime-time on August 3 at the world’s biggest rock festival “Polish Woodstock” in front of half a million punters. Steinway Musical Instruments, Inc., a global leader in the design, manufacture, marketing and distribution of high quality musical instruments, announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by an affiliate of Kohlberg & Company, a global private equity investment firm, in a transaction valued at approximately $438 million. Steinway products include Bach Stradivarius trumpets, Selmer Paris saxophones, C.G. Conn French horns, Leblanc clarinets, King trombones, Ludwig snare drums and Steinway & Sons pianos. Upon the completion of the transaction, Steinway will become a privately held company.
