GOD IS BIGGER THAN YOUR PROBLEM A few years ago, I remember writing an article titled: ‘PROBLEM’. By the time I wrote that article, we were just being introduced to a course called ‘Philosophical Problems.’ I remember staying awake all through, one night raking my brain for possible solutions for some of the problems philosophers have tried to solve for ages. All through that night I kept analyzing, meditating and questioning various concepts and ideas all to no avail. The next morning, I had such a high fever that I couldn’t even comprehend the slightest thing anymore. That was precisely when I wrote this article. Problem, Problem, Problem. Everyone has problems, no one is free from problems. From the cradle to the grave, life is riddled with a lot of problems. In fact the reason why the greatest minds that ever lived couldn’t proffer reasonable solutions and why I wasted my precious time that whole night was because the word ‘problem’ exists only because that is a name we give to describe certain phenomenon. That which constitutes a problem to you may just be an opportunity in disguise. As one author once said, “The cup is either half-full or half-empty. It all depends on the angle from which you are looking.” In the Gospel passage this morning, Jesus told his disciples that he was going to be delivered into the hands of men and be killed. To them, this was serious problem and so they were distressed but for Jesus himself, he was looking forward to it because he saw it from a different perspective. Again when Peter was questioned by the tax collectors about whether or not Jesus should pay tax, Peter considered it as a problem but before he could reach Jesus, Jesus already knew what had happened and gave him directive on how to get the money. God is bigger than any problem you can imagine. Situations may look difficult but with God on your side, you really do not have any problem.
