GOLF TIP# TRIAL AND ERROR When it comes to varying your distances with green side bunker shots, it sometimes may pay to look outside the square. The obvious way to make the ball fly further is to swing bigger, however have you ever thought about changing your club when playing from a green side bunker to achieve that extra length ? Of course other variables have to be considered first, such as the amount of green that may lay between your ball and the flag as well as the height on the lip of the bunker that you may have to clear. Trial and error will help you in understanding what you can and what you can’t achieve with each club. So yes, you can use an eight or nine iron for a green side bunker shot. Just approach it the same way as you do for a sand iron as your focus should still be on hitting the sand and moving the sand forward around that ball. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by the outcome.
