GOOD NEWS FOR BOMBER FANS WITH THE RE-SIGNING OF MIDFIELDER DAVID ZAHARAKIS: On the eve of Essendons season-opener, David Zaharakis has agreed to the terms of a new three year deal. The exciting midfielder will remain at the hanger until the end of the 2017 season. The 24-year-old says he was thrilled his future at the Bombers was secured for the next four years. “I’m proud to play for this great football club, I’ve supported the Bombers since I was a young boy so to re-sign for a further three years, I couldn’t be happier,” Zaharakis said. “All parties were keen to settle my contract before Round 1 and I’m looking forward to the season starting on Friday night and hopefully helping the team win our first four points of the season. “As a playing group we’re extremely excited about the progress we’ve made over the pre-season and if we continue to demand high standards from one another, I believe we have a really exciting future ahead of us.” Senior coach Mark Thompson believes David is poised to play a pivotal role for the Bombers this season. “Players like Zacka are the future of our football club, and to have him re-sign for the next three years is exciting for the playing group and for our fans,” Thompson said. “He’s an extremely driven young man, he’s a smart footballer and the most pleasing aspect is he still has his best football ahead of him.” The 2011 Crichton Medalist and 2013 ANZAC Day Medalist is set to bring up game 100 in season 2014. Heading into his sixth season with the Bombers, David has played 87 games and kicked 73 goals. He was the club’s second round selection, number 23 overall, in the 2008 national draft.
