GOV. MARCOS RECOGNIZES HONESTY OF TWO YOUNG ILOCANO TOURIST AIDES Two among the 600 hired tourist aides under the Paoay Kumakaway! Summer Program of Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte were recognized by Governor Imee R. Marcos after they found and returned a bag with bundles of cash amounting to P100, 000 to the rightful owner. With their honesty and praiseworthy services, Jolimar Cachero, 19, and Josephus Casil-Gaoiran, 22, caught the attention of the Governor after the two reported the incident last June 7, 2014 during the distribution of honorarium to the second batch of tourist aides, nursing aides, and utility personnel employed under the said summer program. According to Cachero, the incident happened during the first week of their job at around 1 o’clock in the afternoon when suddenly the tourist they guided who is also travelling to the United States on the following day left her bag at the corner of Paoay Lake View Deck, the station where they were deployed. But the two never thought of becoming instantly rich, instead they immediately returned the bag to the owner. “The time we saw the content of the bag, we never thought of stealing it, instead we were planning to report it at the nearest police station, but we returned it to the owner who came back after few hours”, Cachero explained. For them, the happening made their experience as tourist aides more memorable because aside from meeting different people, they were also reminded how to become more honest on dealing with them. “This experience taught us not only to become more hospitable but to be more honest, especially to the tourists”, said Cachero when the Governor asked the group what they have learned as employees of the summer program. Governor Marcos expressed her pride for the good deed the two young Ilocanos have shown telling that they are worth emulating for. “They are truly inspiring! Dapat talaga silang tularan lalo na ng mga kabataan. This is a proof that the Ilocanos have an admirable service towards other people”, Gov. Marcos said. She also explained how this happening could give Ilocos Norte a good image to all the tourists who are planning to visit our province. “Through this simple action, through being honest, we create a consistent image of being friendly and safe province, which attracts more tourists to come and visit Ilocos Norte”, Governor Marcos added. On the other hand, Paoay Kumakaway! Summer program aims to give young Ilocanos an opportunity to experience how the Provincial Government works on maintaining and beautifying the tourism industry of the province, at the same time lets them earn their own money for the upcoming school year.
