GOVERNMENT HOUSE, OWERRI PRESS RELEASE 2015 Election: Okorocha Warns Students / Youths Against Political Thug. - As IMSU Students Organises Political Debate. - As PDP, UPP and Accord Gubernatorial Candidate Boycott the Debate. As 2015 Election is fast approaching , Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has urged youths and students all over the country not to aloe themselves to be used as political thugs. The State Governor who made the call during a political debate for all the gubernatorial candidates from various political parties organized by department of political science, Imo State University (IMSU) Owerri at IMSU Auditorium, urged the students to reject any money given by them from any candidate aspiring for any elective position in the state to enable them not to be use as political thugs. Owelle Rochas Okorocha made them to understand that his administration introduce absolutely free education from primary to tertiary institution which he said that has gone a long way to reduce the high rate of prostitution and crime in the state. Governor Okorocha urged the students to ensure his re-election come 2015 election in order to continue his good work in the state and made it clear that other gubernatorial candidate will not sustain the free education policy of the present day administration. He restated the determination of his administration to eradicate poverty in the state through massive industrialization if being elected as the governor come 2015. In his speech, the Vice Chancellor of Imo State University, Prof. U.A. Awuzie said that the school management graciously approved the request of the department of the Political Science to organize a debate for all the gubernatorial candidates with the Theme “2015 General Election the Future of Imo State”, which will enable the student know what the candidate have in mind for them. He said that the present administration led by Governor Rochas Okorocha has transformed IMSU with massive and rapid physical infrastructural development with various completed and ongoing buildings that are variable. Prof. Awuzie noted that in the area of recruitment, the institution have hired very focus, well qualified lecturers, professors that provides quality education to enable the institution meet the educational challenges of the 21st century. In his speech, the gubernatorial candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance [APGA] Capt. Emmanuel Iheanacho, said the youth empowerment, job creation and eradication of poverty will be his upper most priority if elected as the governor of Imo State come 2015. Capt. Iheanacho who is the only gubernatorial candidate that faced Governor Rochas Okorocha during the debate, reminded the students that when he was the Minister of Interior, he used his position to attract job for many Imo sons and daughters. The students of the institution however expressed disappointment that other gubernatorial candidates such as Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Accord Party, United Peoples Party did not attend the debate inspite of invitation sent to them by the department of Political Science. Some of the students who spoke to journalist on the condition of anormity said that the PDP, UPP and Accord party gubernatorial candidates are afraid to meet Owelle face to face as they have nothing to offer to the people of Imo State.
