GOVERNMENT OF SAINT LUCIA Ministry of Health, Wellness, Human Services & Gender Relations Friday, June 21, 2013 PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release STAKEHOLDER REVIEW OF PUBLIC HOSPITAL BOARD BILL FOR NATIONAL HEALTHCARE COMPLEX The Ministry of Health, Wellness, Family Affairs and Gender Relations will tomorrow conduct a stakeholder consultation as part of the review of the Public Hospital Board Bill. Noting that the New National Hospital is currently scheduled for operation in 2014, the Ministry has directed its energies to the legislation that will guide the operation of the Hospital and the Healthcare Complex, located at Coubaril. This developmental process of the Public Hospitals Board Bill, is a collaborative effort of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Legal Affairs. The consultation has been convened to review the Public Hospital Board Bill and to provide stakeholder-specific recommendations. Representatives of various Government Departments, Health Sector Organizations, Private Sector Bodies, and Civil Society Organizations will meet with officials of the Ministries of Health and the Ministry of Legal Affairs, to discuss the details of the proposed legislation. The symposium takes place on Friday June 21st, 2013 at the Auditorium of the National Mental Wellness Centre. --END For More Information Contact: LaVaughn Francis The Commissioning Director New National Health Complex [email protected] Background Information In 2012, the Cabinet of Ministers agreed to the Statutorisation of the National Healthcare Complex, encompassing the New National Hospital, National Mental Wellness Centre and Turning Point Rehabilitation Centre, which will all operate on the same compound. Governance of the three facilities, currently operating as departments within the public service, will be devolved to become the responsibility of a Statutory Board, and the complex will become an autonomous institution.
