GREAT FINISH FOR HHS GIRLS SWIMMERS ... The Huntington High School girls’ swimming and diving program continued to make progress this fall. The Blue Devils were led by freshman Tricia Arceri, who qualified for the state championships in Ithaca. The Blue Devils finished fourth out of six teams in the league standings with an overall record of 3-4. Huntington defeated Lindenhurst, Hauppauge and West Babylon and fell to Sachem East, Sayville/Bayport-Blue Point, East Hampton/Bridgehampton/Pierson and Harborfields. Arceri’s superb performances were the highlight of the season. She was first at the Suffolk Diving Invitational for the second consecutive year, first in the league and second in the county meet. The top performers on the team included: • Patricia Arceri (9th grade) All-League and All-County in 1-Meter diving: 1st place at Sachem Div. Invitational (11 dives; 483.25 points); 1st place at League III Championships (265.55); 2nd place at Section XI Championships/ state qualifying meet (11 dives; 524.70). • Caroline McCartney (11th grade) All League in the 200 medley Relay (Fly) 2:04.82; Qualified for the county meet in three relays: 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle and in the 100 butterfly (1:06.62). She is a butterfly and freestyle specialist. • Sigrid Cassell (9th grade) All-League in the 200 medley relay (breaststroke) 2:04.82; Qualified for the county meet in three relays and two individual events: 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle and in the 100 breaststroke and 50 freestyle (26.26). A breaststroke and freestyle specialist. • Noelle Harvey (10th grade) All League in the 200 medley relay (freestyle) 2:04.82; Qualified for the county meet in three relay events: 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle. A freestyle specialist. • Hannah Bailin (8th grade) All League in the 200 medley relay (backstroke) 2:04.82, Qualified for the county meet in two relay events: 200 medley and 400 freestyle. A backstroke and freestyle specialist. • Jessica Straub (11th grade) Qualified for the county meet in the 200 medley relay. A backstroke and freestyle specialist. • Hailey Bengston (11th grade) Qualified for the county meet in the 200 freestyle relay. A freestyle specialist. “Our individual best times continued to improve throughout the season, resulting in six of our athletes advancing to the county championship/state qualifier meet, where we improved our time in each event entered,” Coach Christopher Helmke said. “From our core group, four swimmers achieved All-League standings and our diver achieved All-County and state qualifier.
