GREAT MODERN FOLK ACTS THIS MONTH AT BRITT Britt is proud to present two intimate indoor concerts this month. In these special off-season events, the stage doors will be closed, the audience will be seated on the Britt stage, and the backstage area will be turned into a lobby/lounge. The Quiet American Wednesday, October 15 - 8 p.m., $14 per person The Quiet American is husband and wife duo, Aaron and Nicole Keim. A home-grown modern folk revival, their music incorporates traditional ballads, banjo breakdowns, raggy choruses, gospel duets and other dusty Americana gems, all delivered on a wide variety of acoustic instruments. The duo will also present a workshop that day entitled In Easy Reach: Left Hand Skill Building for Ukulele. Read more online. Lucy Wainwright Roche Friday, October 17, 8 p.m., $20 per person [Lucy Wainwright Roches] clear, steady voice feels like a beacon of sorts, slicing straight through the room. - The New York Times Lucy Wainwright Roche is the daughter of singer-songwriters Loudon Wainwright III and Suzzy Roche, and the sister of singers Rufus Wainwright and Martha Wainwright. Although she grew up traveling with, and surrounded by, her big musical family, Lucy initially chose to bypass the family musical path in order to teach elementary school in New York City. In 2007, however, she began pursuing a career in music full time, and has since won multiple awards at folk festivals. See our website for more information about Lucy and the concert. Britt joins Edgy in October with a reception featuring photo artist Rita Ashley Edgy in October receptionWed., Oct. 8, 5-7 p.m. Backstage, Britt Pavilion Britt is proud to be part of the second annual Edgy in October. This Rogue Valley-wide art event was created by local artist Cammy Davis to promote cultural tourism in southern Oregon by pairing exhibiting artists with local businesses for an Edgy themed event. The reception at Britt will feature photo artist resident Rita Ashley. Ashley uses her camera to reveal the beauty in ordinary things. Her work finds the art in chaos and reveals the hidden in the apparent. The reception is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be provided, including samplings from Homemade Confections. brittfest.org
