***GREAT MOMENTS IN MAIDSTONE SPORTING HISTORY*** Way back now, to the olden olden days of Maidstone in the early 80s. A very different town than the one we avoid today. And down the market, children would nick off school to watch the popular mouse-boxing. Charlie-Mouse, left, had grown up in foster care, and was a very popular, bad-boy mouse around town, quite the mouse who didnt have to try too hard, as they used to say, always with the popular ladies - *cough*Nicola Kerry, Su Morbi*cough.* After a string of unbeaten matches, here taking on the much-fancied Tovil Tiddlemouse, a burly bruiser from the the wrong sides of the skirting board. The fight went into a record 14 rounds, each mouse a mess of blood, sinew and mouse-poo coming all out of his bum, The ref - Rob Andrews - was deliberating whether to stop the fight, but the Maidstone mob were hungry for rodent-blood (literally, in regards to the Tovilites, as the chippy was shut), when fate took a hand and a fat cat shot out from one of the market stalls and bit the heads off both of them. The crowd were momentarily shocked, then disappointed, before deciding to chase the cat and stick a firework up its arse, which they duly did. Mouse-Boxing still lives on, but since losing the TV coverage in 1993, interest has waned. Most ex-boxing mice can now be found in Parkwood, taking on the smacked-up human detritus in prize-fighting. Channel 5 are currently putting together a series about it.
