GSA and the University of Surrey are delighted to announce a Lionel Bart Symposium OUT EAST, UP WEST will accompany their production of the new version of Lionel Barts Twang!! Guest of Honour Barbara Windsor, who appeared in the original cast will be talking about her career and the original production. Date: 8 November 2103 at the Ivy Arts Centre, University of Surrey 1.30pm - 5.30pm. Lionel Barts Twang!! has passed into show business legend as the most notorious West End flop. Opening in 1965 and closing 6 weeks later, its creation and performances redefined theatrical disaster. In 2008 the Estate of Lionel Bart commissioned an entirely new bookend allowed the use of some of Barts pop hits to create a new version of Twang!! which is produced by GSA, directed by former Regents Park Theatre director Ian Talbot and choreographed by Kenn Oldfield. This is the first chance since the 1960s to see Twang!! and the first chance ever to see this new version which will be subsequently released for performance worldwide. To accompany this production is OUT EAST, UP WEST, with Guest of Honour Barbara Windsor, who appeared in the original cast and who will be talking about her career and the original production. Success and Failure in Musical Theatre - Bert Fink (European Vice President of R&H), Mark Shenton, Ian Talbot, Julian Woolford 4.00: Break 4.20: To The Woods: Lionel Bart, the creation of Twang!! and the revision.
