GUYS, it is almost 1.30 am and far beyond my bedtime but I am watching Netherlands vs. Costa Rica as is my WONT, i ALWAYS SUPPORT THE UNDERDOG...but one of biggest customers, namely Artho Care Corp. have their PLANT in Costa Rica and we have many many friends there so here is WISHING THE RICE COAST all the BEST...and about the Netherlands..although I have been there and enjoyed Amsterdam and its especially beautiful Schipol Airport and the lovely donuts outside, this is my take on the DUTCH...obviously from my book... Onam is a festival for all Malayalees celebrating the legend of an ancient king returning to his beloved land. A non-religious story, Hindus, Christians, and Muslims enjoy the festivities, though Hindus celebrate it with more gusto and possessiveness. Abundant are silly stories in every religion, and most are nonsensical fairytales we should have shed before fifth grade. I mean, why make fun of a Mallu when he passes out in his favorite red underwear when in the Old Testament, Noah slept butt naked in front of his children after a night of imbibing. An abstract of Genesis 9:20 to 9:29: Noah passes out naked, and his son Ham sees him in the morning still out cold, and informs his two brothers, Shem and Japheth, who cover their father’s shame. Upon waking up, and for some inexplicable reason never explained, he cusses Ham’s son Canaan as the lowest of the slaves to his brothers and uncles. We will never know what poor Canaan had to do with this naked drunkenness, but we do know he was not even on the scene. This curse, all because good old Noah had a bloody hangover, went on to become the basic justification for slavery and the precursor for appalling injustice. Ask the Dutch in South Africa who used the same story for some very Boerish behavior. Nita Balakrishnan Smita Ramachandran
