GWRC propose to flood homes, destroy the Mangatarere River, degrade other waterways and increase dairy herds in Wairarapa. This they say is for the public good, and wish to use the Public Works Act to acquire land/homes. It doesnt stack up. There are other options for Wairarapa that create jobs without the collateral damage Fonterras argument is that they need the volume in order to then add the value, so unless youre a certain sized player, how can you compete? Obviously theres some truth in that, but theyve been saying it for a long time and what this report demonstrates is that theyre not really making any significant progress.
