Gaming News: With its fluorescent purple skies, twisted landscapes and floating ethereal jellyfish, upcoming indie title NERO certainly has the aesthetic hallmarks of a Tim Burton film. And after an exclusive hands-on session with the game ahead of a worldwide unveiling at GDC next week, we can tell you it’s no accident. Executive director Alberto Belli and creative director Carlo Ivo Alimo Bianchi, founders of Italian startup Storm in a Teacup, revealed to IGN they were inspired by a large number of influences ranging from Studio Ghibli and the Final Fantasy series to Sigur Rós and One Giant Leap. Interestingly, Belli personally describes the game as a cross between Journey and Myst. Indeed, during our time with the game we found elements of old Lucasarts’ adventure Loom in the mix too - not just because of the hooded characters, mind you, but for the role the music plays in the experience as well as the dreamy mood that embraces the player.
