Gangtok September 20: The Governor of Sikkim Mr. Shrinivas Patil who is also the Chancellor of Sikkim Manipal University attended the 14th Convocation of the University along with the Chief Guest Rdt General Mr. V.K Singh Minister of State External Affairs and DONER . In a function organised in the auditorium of Sikkim Manipal University here in Tadong, East Sikkim a total of 1020 students received their degrees out of which 847 students were from Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology and 173 from Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences. The Governor Mr. Patil and the Minister Mr. V.K Singh gave the degrees and the medals to the students who received the award of merit Certificates. Minister for Human Resource Development Department Mr. R.B Subbba, Minister for Health and Information and Public Relations Department Mr. Arjun Ghatani, Chief Secretary Mrs R. Ongmu, Pro Chancellor of the University Dr. Ramdas M Pai who also attended the function gave the degrees and the certificates to the other graduating students of the University. Addressing a huge gathering of students and their parents the Governor Mr. Patil expressed his happiness and gratitude to be in the convocation, which he termed it as a moment of happiness and satisfaction for the graduating students and their parents. He also praised how Sikkim Manipal University has turned out to be one of the premier education institute in the nation and their products who have been trained and taught in this university has gone on to become successful people in life. Referring India as the country with the largest number of youth populace in the world he urged the students graduating from the university to use the light of the knowledge and education imparted to them by the university to illuminate not only their lives but also the state and the nation, as the students from the university are capable of it. Further he added that now the real test for the students begins while facing life and its obstacles, therefore the Governor asked the students to accept the responsibility and work towards not only attending their personal ambitions but also work towards building the nation and ushering it towards the path of prosperity. The Minister Mr. V. K Singh who also addressed the gathering in his brief and crisp address not only congratulated the graduating students but also appealed to them to become not only successful people in life but also good human beings . Honesty, integrity, persistence, hard work and zeal to make things happen for oneself and the nation are the requirements of being successful as well as good human beings, with such qualities and education and knowledge from such reputed University no one can stop you from attending your goals Mr. Singh Stressed. Personal Ambitions should never be a hindrance for anyone to be a good and helpful human being the Minister added. Earlier the proceedings began with the Governor declaring the 14th Convocation open and releasing of the Annual Report of the University. The function also saw Vice Chancellor Dr. S.N Mishra talking about the highlights of the university. Dr. Ashish Sharma Registrar Sikkim Manipal University drew curtains to the 14th Convocation with his vote of thanks. Later in the afternoon the Minister Mr. V.K Singh in a brief interaction with the media personnel, stated that looking at how successfully Sikkim has worked towards being an organic state, he hoped the other North Eastern states follow the trend and the region becomes an organic hub of the nation. He also added that the North Eastern states have a huge potential in Eco, Adventure, and Rural Tourism and we want to aggressively promote it in the region.
