Available here: flower-pepper/shop/drawing/garden-party-by-mar-cerda/ Width: 6.63″, Height: 4.37″, Depth: 4.37″, Paper and Watercolor Diorama Exhibition at Flower Pepper Gallery: 3rd Year Anniversary Show from December 6th, 2014 to January 6th, 2015 Artist Statement: As an illustrator, watercolor painting and paper are the base materials of my work, both used in watercolor prints and in little dioramas made of cut papers. My training in cinema and audiovisual, and my specialization in art direction, are facts that have emphasized my fascination with scenography and the treatment of space, both displayed in many of my illustrations and, above all, in my dioramas. This sense of theatre is one of the most present characteristics in my illustrations, where the space, the setting and the use of frontal view frequently prevail. Additionally, my work is highly influenced by the architecture, interior design and fashion of one of my greatest passions: Barcelona. Still, when I am not cutting papers and illustrating children’s books together with publishing works linked to my city, I attempt to make the most of my trips by taking new ideas. I firmly believe that a character can be defined by a space, even if is not present at all. That is why my interest, generally, is focused on capturing the scene, the action and, most of all, the atmosphere. I therefore also pay important attention to detail. I try to think each element that will eventually create the scene and seek multiple visual references of each object until I stumble upon the suitable one. Likewise, I like to play with improvisation, especially when working with dioramas. Even though I start by scrawling a little in order to have a scarce idea of its original disposition, from there on I freely create on the go the different elements that will appear in front of me as the final space takes shape.
