Geneseo baseball will meet Voorheesville in state semifinals... Geneseo’s Class C state baseball semifinal opponent is Voorheesville, out of Section 2. Voorheesville will bring a record of 18-7 into Saturday’s NYS Final Four game against Geneseo, which takes place at 1 p.m. at Hornet Field on the campus of Broome Community College, just north of Binghamton. Voorheesville defeated Section 7 rep Ticonderoga 10-3 in their regional game. Don’t let the seven losses fool you. Voorheesville plays mostly Class B schools with six of those losses coming against larger schools including two to Class B state ranked Schalmont. Voorheesville’s most impressive victory came last week against No. 3 Class C state ranked Fort Plain as the Blackbirds got the 14-4 victory in their sectional bracket. Voorheesville is led by a pair of senior captains in Nico Church and Mike Young. Church earned the Colonial Council’s co-Most Valuable Player with 52 hits, 43 runs, and 35 RBIs. He hit a team-best .584 during the season. He has also stolen 34 of 35 bases this spring. Young, a shortstop/pitcher was named Colonial Council First Team, hitting .521 with 18 doubles, 39 RBIs and 30 runs scored. With the exception of Church and Young, Voorheesville is a young team who starts If Geneseo wins their semifinal, they will play for the state championship on the same field at 4 p.m.
