Genocide is the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or - TopicsExpress

Genocide is the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or in part, of an ethnic, racial, religious or national group. Historically speaking, Kurds have been oppressed for centuries. The biggest nation without a state has regained media and political attention as Sinjar and Kobane is under the threat of genocide. Kurds are fighting ISIS, with very limited capacity, within the Kurdish regions of Iraq and Syria. At least 190.000 people have already lost their lives in Syria, not even mentioning 7/10 million displaced people and food/water shortages. Poor governance by the Iraqi and Syrian governments, political games between neighboring countries, neglect by the international community and international support given to IS has helped them to expand its territory quickly. Therefore, those vulnerable civilians, within this black hole of no sovereignty, no infrastructure, no food, no water, no medical care have no other alternative than IS, that provides them with these basic needs. As signaled before, these innocent civilians are also vulnerable children that have been kidnapped or those that have lost their parents during this onslaught, they are being recruited to become IS martyrs, whereas they should be free and playing with a football rather than with a grenade. We can all remember Srebrenica, Rwanda and for the Kurds Halabja where the international community didn’t react adequately until genocide became a fact. Instead of only pointing fingers to neighboring countries, I believe that it’s the task of the United Nations to stop this situation as soon as possible. These “heroic” Kurds have limitations as well; we cannot expect that Kurds can win this battle as they have been oppressed for years and don’t have the means to stand their ground. As we all have insurance for almost everything, we should call on our insurance to genocide. I demand that the United Nations, the Security Council, must put their Responsibility 2 Act into effect.
