Geologist: Earthquake reported in Summerville SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - An earthquake shook the ground in the Summerville area Thursday afternoon, a geologist at the College of Charleston confirms. Dr. Steven Jaume says an earthquake was reported around the Lincolnville area just after 3 p.m. Thursday. The report was confirmed by the National Weather Service in Charleston which reported that the earthquake had a magnitude of 2.5 and happened 4 miles southwest of Summerville at 3:14 p.m. According to the NWS, there wre reports of moderate ground shaking along with reports of windows rattling in homes. No damage has been reported so far. A number of people called in to Live 5 News Thursday afternoon saying the ground was shaking along Trolley Road, Hwy. 78, and Berlin G Myers Parkway. Another caller said he felt his house rumbling around 3:13 p.m. This is the fourth earthquake in Summerville in less than a month. A 2.2-magnitude earthquake was recorded on Sept. 14, a 1.1-magnitude earthquake was recorded Aug. 25, and a 2.0-magnitude tremor was recorded two days prior. Copyright 2013 WCSC. All rights reserved.
