Get introduced with the vissionary indeed! There is a legendery man of action with extraordinarily and un herd determination in Ethiopia still alive. Name: Raesi Mengesha Seyoum; Regional governor of Tigray 1953-1966 E.C. In the past four years, I had a golden opportunity to visit every woreda in Tigray. I have repeatedly crisscrossed through the gravel roads connecting the rural towns. I happened to witness what a visionary leader indeed could do in the remote past with a limited resources but unlimited determination. I often wonder to see what Mengesha could do being amid rampant societal illiteracy and highly toxic Shewan jealousy. In just 13 years, he achieved the entire region to have gravel roads connecting every tiny rural towns. The Tigray Rural roads enterprise founded in the post Dergue era had to do the maintenance of the already paved. I always ask locals as to who and when paved the well functioning roads . The answer is always one and the same Mengesha did it and Geter menged maintained before the invasion of Badime. I learnt that even the maintenance stopped soon after the boarder war. I wonder to learn as to why even the maintenance ceased after the early nineties. No capital capital project started post 1993 E.C. Again What un applauded hero Mengesha realy was! Imagine! The number of machines and technically capable personnel he could possibly have at his disposal! no computer, no adequate finance, no machine, no cement, no qualified designers and formans. One highy dedicated visionary man nullifying all the odds of backwardness, poverty and lack of political will from the center, Addis ababa. If that lone but highly vibrant patriotic hero of development could achieve that all amid a hostile regime, what do you think he could have done should he led Tigray for the past 23 years with all the finance, technology, human resources at his disposal. As per me, Today,Tigray simply could have assumed the status of South Korea.
