Getting Gruber under oath before Congress is fine, but how about a class-action suit from people who lost their health care coverage because of Obamacare? Gruber was paid $400K in a sole-source contract (i.e. a contract explicitly targeted to him and not put out for competitive bid) in order to run various cost and revenue scenarios, with the objective of having the ACA achieve a high CBO score and thereby make it easier for politicians to support. The problem is he now admits the plan was specifically, deceptively designed to appear as if it was not raising taxes - and this was central to its high CBO score, and hence to the bill becoming law. This was a massive fraud designed to fool the public; corporations have paid billions in settlements for less consequential and wide-ranging scams. I know you cant sue the government or elected officials for what policies they advocate, but what about ethically-challenged academics moonlighting as consultants? Speaking as a consultant for 21+ years, legal action is possible not just for fraud, but also errors and omissions in consulting work. So serious question, especially to my lawyer friends - is a class action lawsuit against Gruber possible?
