Gift Of Gab Escape 2 Mars 2009 Continuing with the theme of leaving this earthly way of living, Gift Of Gab follows his debut solo 4th Dimensional Rocketships Going Up with an Esacape 2 Mars. The West Coast double time rhymer is always making HOP music about more than beats and rhymes and more thought provoking edutainment. His storytelling is not as direct as a Mos Def or Slick Rick but tracks like Richman, Poorman give that metaphorical tale of how the poor can be rich with life while the rich man can be more miserable than the poor. Electric Waterfalls is very different in the scope of the music but is a creative way of touching on global warming and depletion of natural resources. Gift Of Gab will always make sure he has songs with meaning but never one to not show his skills like on the aggressive Dreamin featuring Del Tha Funky Homosapien and Brother Ali or El Gifto Magnifico. The tragedy in the success of Gift Of Gab and his music, whether solo or as Blackalicious is that the music is not universal. He would relate more to a Macklemore crowd than a Black Moon crowd and that to me has hindered his acknowledgement throughout the years because that Macklemore crowd is not usually around when the next new sound comes around. Until then the Gift Of Gab will just have to wait for the public to finally breach his space on Mars. What did you think of the album?
