Gil Scott-Heron recited Whitey on the Moon on late night radio programs and Im almost sure that Alison Steele played it as well. It had to do with people objecting to the money that was being spent on the Appollo (Not the theater) program instead of funding inner city programs. I had never heard anything like it on the radio before and of course it never made top 40 since it was hard to dance to.
