Ginebra superstar Mark Caguioa joins first PBA trip to visit ‘Yolanda’ survivors InterAKTV · Monday, November 25, 2013 · 6:03 pm Ginebra superstar Mark Caguioa will be joining the PBA delegation to Eastern Visayas to visit people affected by super typhoon “Yolanda” on Friday. The 2012 PBA Most Valuable Player will join Ginebra backcourt mate LA Tenorio, Talk ‘N Text court general Jimmy Alapag, Air 21 big man Asi Taulava, and veteran free agent forward Danny Seigle for the trip. Leading the PBA delegation are PBA commissioner Chito Salud, chairman Ramon Segismundo, and board member Erick Arejola of GlobalPort. The initial list included popular San Mig Coffee wingman James Yap, who begged off from Friday’s trip because of conflicts with team activities. But Yap will have an opportunity to go because according to Salud, it won’t be the last trip for PBA players to visit those affected by the calamity “This is our way of showing support to our brothers who were devastated by Yolanda. And the PBA is on it for a long term, not just one time,” said Salud. “Babalik kami ng babalik sa mga nasalantang lugar. We’ll visit Ormoc, Samar, Bohol and even Cebu.” For its first trip, the PBA delegation will turn over relief goods and a cash donation to Kenneth Uy, who organizes the league’s out-of-town games in Leyte. Air 21 took care of transporting the relief goods to Leyte. Members of the PBA were touched by images of kids playing basketball amid the devastation surrounding them, citing the game as their refuge from all their worries. In a News5 report, some kids from Eastern Samar have requested for help from the PBA, specifically asking their idols to help rebuild the basketball court in their town plaza. PBA media bureau chief Willie Marcial said the league has heeded the call, as it will sponsor the construction of new basketball courts. “We’re now trying to locate these kids, hoping to bring them over to Leyte,” said PBA media bureau chief Willie Marcial. The PBA delegation, which is supported by Toby’s Sports, Molten and Excite Inc. of Gelo Serrano, will be bringing over six portable rims and boards along with six dozen basketballs. Fans of the league may also make cash donations to the effort by calling 4703255.
