Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread... Cameroon is a blessed country. That is why the majority may not know why it is important each day to ask for daily bread. I am reminded of what a friend told us about Gustavo Gutierezz. In the hey days of liberation theology in Latin America, this friend visited Gutierezz at his home. Gutierezz told the friend that they had asked christian faithfuls not to pray the Lords prayer for that week. When the visitor asked to know the reason why, the prelate told him that government had just raised the price of flour so they had asked the christians not to buy and eat bread until the price of flour dropped; so there was no need to pray and say ...give us this day our daily bread... Can it happen in cameroon the same way? In the face of oppression and repression hunger strike is vital. Ghandi often went on hunger strike in his struggle to liberate India from British colonial rule. In the fight against racial segregation in the USA Malcolm X wrote that he is not a dinner by sitting at table watching you eat with nothing in his plate. Yes, one musician said in song that ...we are hungry, we poor people we need our share... Our own Lapiro de Mbanga meant the same thing when he said ...Tara mimba we... Dear friend the resources of the earth belong to all of us, it is unfortunate that those who have been placed at the crossroads to control the flow have dug pits where they sink those resources for personal benefits. Dear friend, May I remind you that your welfare depends on the wellbeing of others. God is in the Other person. The Lords prayer emphasis ...give US this day OUR daily bread..., this means that it is not just about self; it is about US. Do not just pray for others. If it is in your power do something for them. God bless you today as you bless others.
