Glad Luciadag! If youre Swedish, then you probably know of this tradition. If you dont, then here ya go: https://youtube/watch?v=i2-Q_ObdE-4 St. Lucia Day is December 13th. As Im only 1/3 Swedish, this tradition was not passed down to me. I first heard of this holiday when my parents got me the American Girl doll Kirsten for Christmas. Kirsten was a fictional Swedish immigrant who came to Minnesota (Chisago City area) with her family in the 1850s. I identified immediately with her, and fell in love with all things and traditions Swedish. Kirstens family celebrated this holiday in the book, so I took it upon myself to celebrate it in our family. Its a huge holiday celebrated in Sweden (and in Italy as well, particularly Sicily). I did a report in the 6th grade on Lucia, and dressed up the part, and look forward to the day I have my own little girl to dress up as lucia. And yes, wake her up at 5 a.m. to make us Lucia buns too! Tonight, I will make lussekatter, or St. Lucia Buns. Played this tune today in church as well, even if our congregation is mostly Norwegian, the one other Swedish parishoner at our church enjoyed it :) Happy Lucia Day to all Ledins, and all our relatives in Sweden!
