Go Explore! That’s the message from Fife Council, NHS Fife and partner organisations as they launch a new website featuring a host of free things to do across the Kingdom - all at the click of a button: fifedirect.org.uk/families It forms part of Fife’s “Take Time” campaign to encourage activities which help give children the very best start in life. Exploring is vital to a child’s development and aids skills like pulling up, standing, problem solving, learning new words, and sparks the imagination. Fife’s new website has a wealth of information on services as well as activities which can help little ones flourish. Many activities are free, including den building, bug hunting and craft workshops as well as a host of places to visit across the Kingdom, as Cllr Willie Campbell, Fife Early Years Ambassador explains: “Doing activities together can create shared experiences and learning which lasts a lifetime. Take Time to Explore is about being adventurous and trying new things such as going to a beach or park you’ve never visited before. Easily browsed on a mobile phone or hand held device, the new Fife Direct Families website makes it easy for parents to explore on the go.” Cllr Bryan Poole, Spokesperson for Education Children, Young People and Families added: “We know the pace of modern life is hectic. But we are making it easy to find activities which families can enjoy together. Even if it’s raining, which it often is in Scotland, why not visit the many museums, libraries and local events which the council and partners run and support. There are lots of ideas and activities through fifedirect.org.uk/families website and look out for information through local media and on the Council’s Facebook and Twitter pages. Perhaps families could drop us a line to tell us what new things they have discovered whilst out exploring the Kingdom to help little ones flourish.” Professor Scott McLean,NHS Fife Executive Lead for Children’s Services, said: Exploring outdoors is an excellent way of improving childrens well-being and physical health. Not only is avisit to the park, beach orcountryside a great day out, physical activity also develops balance, flexibility, co-ordination and increases strength. And when the weathers not so great exploring your locallibrary, museumor indoor activitieshelps to develop imagination, expand vocabulary and sharpen observational skills. Theres a lot to see and do in Fife and plenty of ideas for activities on the new website -we hope that families will be encouraged to explore this summer.
