God Save the Queen Few things in life unite people more than a shared history; childhood friends hold the memories of their time together close and it brings them comfort in times of distress, families look back on the accomplishments of their loved ones and take pride in them as if it were they that performed the task. Countries are no different as we look back on how we unite to defeat evil throughout the world and bring peace to those in need. In the paranormal field it is not always easy to find that unity or shared history; there is one place however where both the United States and the United Kingdom can take pride in not only a shared history of mans power for good against evil, but in a shared history of spirits and the love for their eternal home; that home is the magnificent RMS Queen Mary. England has always been a master ship building country but no ship in the history of man is grander than Queen Mary. Built for the North Atlantic passenger trade she was the most opulent liner of her day and her appointments of Art Deco and art works from contemporary greats made her the choice of the wealthy. Queen Mary was also ahead of her time in that she did away with “steerage” and allowed even the less well to-do travel in the lap of luxury. Her speed granted her the coveted Blue Riband as she ruled the waves for 3 years until Hitler invaded Poland. It was here that the RMS Queen Mary’s legend would begin and allow her to form the bond still shared today by our two great nations and their people. As my father was one of the lucky GI’s to come home aboard this wonderful Lady of the Sea, I was drawn to her not only for her history but as a paranormal investigator for the stories of her Spirits still wandering her decks called to me as well. It is well known that this ship is perhaps one of the most haunted places on Earth and I can tell you that those tales do not over exaggerate. I have been down into the cargo hold near the area where the Queen Mary sliced her escort, the HMS Curacao in two as hundreds of US soldiers stood helplessly watching. I have heard the disembodied voices of the prisoners who were kept here on their way to P.O.W. camps and listened as men long dead questioned our presence. These men came from different countries, Germany, England and Italy, and at one time fought each other, yet now are united as brothers in death. I have been witness to the eerie unnatural darkness brought on by seaman John Henry in the generator room where he purportedly died and heard the spectral hammering of a spirit believed to be that of a welder trapped as the ship was being built. I have stayed on the ship in one of her stately hotel rooms and had a playful spirit repeatedly unchain our door as my wife and I tried to rest and have heard the sound of the spirit we affectionately call Grumpy as he surprises the unwary by growling in their ear. I have even been lucky enough to listen as the White Lady gently sang to the little girls Jackie and Sarah as if lulling them to sleep. However of all of the activity I have encountered on-board the RMS Queen Mary it was sweet little 5 year old Jackie that has stolen my heart and gave me the greatest gift an investigator could ask for; a 17 minute conversation in the first class pool room with my good friend Bob Davis. The Queen Mary has been host to many paranormal events and conventions and my team; Planet Paranormal; has attended most if not all of these. It was at one of these that Bob Davis and myself caught one of the most amazing pieces of evidence since the late Peter James discovered little Jackie back in 1991. To this day it has and will remain as the most astounding paranormal event I have ever experienced. This grand liner, Queen Mary, is even today one of the most beautiful creations of man but finds herself in danger of becoming yet another forgotten relic of the past due to neglect and a lack of caring from not only her operators but from the very City that went above and beyond to bring her to their citizens. It is time for a call to action from everyone who loves the paranormal and for those that cherish history to come to the aid of this truly remarkable piece of the past. I urge EVERYONE to contact the City of Long Beach, California and demand that they take their role as caretaker seriously and finally treat this Grand Lady of the Seas with the respect and dignity that she deserves. It would be a true crime if this ship were to parish and the loss would not be just to the city or the United States but a loss to the entire world! God save the Grey Ghost and GOD SAVE THE QUEEN MARY!-Brian
