God asks very difficult things of his people sometimes. He wants us to trust him with the things we hold most dear. He will usually give them back to us, as we trust him. He provides a way out. He cares about our faith. He will stretch our faith. It is difficult, but essential, to learn how to keep an open hand on the things God has given us, always being willing to give it back to him. Our relationships, our possessions, our positions, our successes, our reputation, and our health are examples of some things he will sometimes ask us to surrender. Oh yes. Our rights, our comfort, our security, and our freedoms are additional things to hold with an open hand. Great joy, peace, and strength come as we learn to surrender to him all we are, have, and desire. Its a profound paradox. Is there anything weve been holding onto these days around which hes asking us to loosen our grip? Lord, please search my heart and reveal to me what I am not surrendering to you.
