God bless this teacher who gets it and God help our politicians who do not. This kind of thing is one of the major reasons I decided to retire. Though SC testing is not this extensive at this time, it is, in my opinion, still too much and wouldnt surprise me if were not on this train that Florida is on. Just look at the new reading law in SC - copied from Florida from what I understand. Theres something wrong with spending more time assessing students than actually teaching them. That said, assessment is important, even critical to be effective and increasing achievement. It is a necessary evil in todays classroom. But it doesnt have to completely overtake everything we do. Why cant we use our life skills of common sense and responsibility to ensure our students are sitting in classrooms where teachers are TEACHING and students are LEARNING? Ill probably get fired for this post....oh wait, Im retired. Filter is gone. Life is good. Stepping down from soapbox.
