God designed us to have dominion over every living thing that moves on the earth, in the air, and in the waters (see Genesis 1:28). Of the trees He said “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat” (Genesis 2:16b-17a). God did not give us dominion over the trees, the fruit of the trees, or over the knowledge of good and evil. The dominion was not over the elements of the earth, but the living. God created mankind with His own hands, and gave us the dominion He designed us to have. We overstepped our dominion, following after the one who exalted himself above the dominion of God. Jesus came into the creation as one created, with the dominion given to mankind, and with the dominion retained by God. Jesus said, “All authority (power) has been given to Me in heaven and on earth" (Matthew 28:18b). The authority over our environment belongs to Jesus Christ, to the point that He becomes our environment - "Abide in (dwell in – have a relationship with) Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me" (John 15:4).
