God has a unique plan for each of us. We dont always know every detail of His will, but our faith and perseverance in doing what is before us today will bring us further toward His purpose. We press on in faith... Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:12-14 NKJV) God apprehended all of us for a purpose. You and I have been divinely marked and chosen for great things! His calling is truly both the goal and prize of our pursuit. Forgetting what is behind doesnt necessarily mean we literally erase the memories of past accomplishments. Paul lists his credentials pretty thoroughly in this chapter. Nor does it mean that we live in denial or repress those things in our past that caused us pain. Paul certainly had every reason to regret his past as a murderer of Christians. No, forgetting what is behind is an intentional shift of our thoughts and focus. We dont idle in neutral, meandering and wandering throughout life. We dont camp out in our accomplishments, re-living the glory that once was. Rather, we pursue with vigilance His purpose for today and tomorrow. We shift our focus to all that lies ahead. We deal with the pain of our past responsibly, through counsel, connecting with God, and His people He has placed in our lives to bring healing and restoration . We dont allow the past to negatively affect our future. We live in the humility and brokenness of knowing that all good gifts and accomplishments come from God. And we press on to all that He has for us!
