God knows that confronting and wrestling with our demons can be painful. He knows that it causes suffering in us. But God allows us space and time to wrestle – to wrestle with him, to wrestle with ourselves, to wrestle through our relationships and our yearnings. He allows us the grace of wrestling until we are desolate. And this is the grace of it: It is exactly to the empty-hearted, the empty-handed, the desolate, that God comes. It is exactly where we hurt the most that he touches – the touch that paradoxically injures us and makes us whole.
