Good AM! Reality Meets Science (tm) IN DEFENSE OF (whole) FRUIT! With all of the legitimate concern about ADDED sugar out there, its not surprising that wonderful whole fruits would get caught up in the concern. But in actuality, for the health conscious, whole fruit should be the mass majority - if not only - place where our dietary sugar comes from. This is because of the wonderful science of calorie density and nutrient density (which are quite low and high, respectively, in whole fruits case). You see, though whole fruit counts as a solid food, they are mass majority water and throw in a good amount of micronutrients (vitamins, minerals like blood pressure lowering potassium, anti-oxidants, bone preserving alkaline residues) for very little sugar or calories overall, relatively speaking. Whole fruit remains solid due to its micro-fiber and cellular structure holding everything together in a high water mass. And since most of us have a sweet tooth to some degree or another, thank God for whole fruit! The healthiest way to satisfy a sweet tooth! If youd like to delve further into the topic, including learning how to look at a nutrition label to understand the simple but powerful concept of calorie density, feel free to check out this casual 15 minute YouTube video. It may just help you put your concerns over whole fruit to rest if youre concerned about whole fruits (relatively small) sugar content. In fact, most of us should likely be shooting for around a pound (a bit more or less depending) of whole fruit per day (use your grocery store weighing basket to help visualize a pound of fruit - and check out a pound of veggies while youre at it since thats another excellent goal). Wishing everyone a WONDERFUL and HEALTHY WEEK with lots of whole fresh fruit! RMS Reality Meets Science (tm)
