Good Evening Cantabs! We at CWU are supporting an exciting Canterbury project: More Heat No Smoke Quite simply we want to make a difference to the environment! The fact is we have far too many high pollution nights, especially during cold frosty nights. We’re not saying, “Don’t have a fire!” The message of this campaign is to learn the art of burning so you get warmer homes, waste less firewood and put an end to your smoky chimney! A wee bit of knowledge can make a massive difference to the environment. The bad guy is PM10 – the main pollutant. During those frosty sub-zero nights, PM10 gets to high levels and 80% of PM10 is generated by home fires using solid fuel for their heating. That’s where the More Heat No Smoke Facebook page comes in - with some valuable tips on how to burn better you can get a smoke free chimney and reduce the levels of PM10.
