Good Monday morning! I hope that your new work and school-week is - TopicsExpress

Good Monday morning! I hope that your new work and school-week is off to a great start! Thanks to moisture coming off of major Hurricane Odile in the Pacific, which is hitting Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, we can expect partly to mostly cloudy skies today. By the way, Odile has a major hurricane, with winds sustained at 110 mph or more...and this is the first major hurricane to hit Cabo San Lucas since 1964! Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy skies with isolated showers and t-storms. The best rain chances will be this afternoon as a weak cold front heads our way and gets involved. So, everything should be quiet until around 3pm (CDT) when the KVII Computer Model forecast shows a few t-storms around....especially along and south of I-40. The HRRR (High Resolution Refresh Model) shows a few, very small and very isolated showers and t-storms at 3pm (CDT), but the NAM (North American Model) shows at 7pm that a line of t-storms will be along the cold front...which will again be very close to I-40. Will we ALL see rain today? No. But, if you are lucky enough to get underneath one of the t-storms, thanks to the moisture from Odile, you could quickly get a half inch to an inch of rain in a short period of time! High temperatures will vary from 68 degrees in Clayton where the front will blow through this morning to 89 degrees in Childress where the front wont blow through until tonight. Winds will blow from the southwest at 10-20 mph ahead of the front, then shift to the northeast as the front blows through at 5-15 mph. The slight chances of rain will continue for tonight and early tomorrow morning...but just as was the case today, it will be the case tonight. IF you live along and south of I-40, you have the slight chances of rain. North of the Interstate? You probably will be dry. Winds will blow from the northeast and east at 5-15 mph as lows drop into the 50s and 60s by sunrise tomorrow. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy throughout the night. Tuesday will see slightly cooler high temperatures varying from 76 degrees in Tulia to 85 degrees in Childress. Winds will blow from the east at 5-15 mph in the morning, then the south at 10-20 mph in the afternoon as the front dissipates to our south. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy with isolated showers and t-storms as well...especially over the southern TX Panhandle. Wednesday and Thursday will be hotter, drier and breezier as upper-level high pressure temporarily moves overhead! High temperatures will rise into the 80s and 90s as southerly and southwesterly winds at 10-20 mph occur. If you have something to do outdoors where some rain could interfere...get er done during these two days! Why.... On TGI Friday, 2 out of the 3 computer models that we use to forecast your extended forecast look wet! Skies will be partly cloudy during the morning, then becoming mostly cloudy in the afternoon hours. The remnants of Hurricane Odile in the Pacific seem to be headed our way if you look at the European and GFS (Global Forecast System) computer models. The Canadian computer model? NO sir! Its as dry as a potato chip while the others are dripping wet! The European computer model has us at around .3 of an inch and the GFS is around 1/2 inch. We will wait and see if these forecasts stay consistent throughout the week, but lets hope that this is the case and that we get some more, much-needed rain! Next weekend will feature slight t-storm chances Saturday and Sunday with another weak cold front also helping our rain chances as well. High temperatures will rise to the lower to mid 80s on Saturday and in the 70s to around 80 degrees on Sunday. Winds will blow from the southwest at 10-20 mph in morning on Saturday....then the northeast at 5-15 mph behind the cool front Saturday afternoon. It will be slightly cooler with about a 5 degree drop in temperatures on Sunday. Isolated showers and t-storms will occur on Sunday before the rain chances go away entirely for Monday with a nice and cool high of 75 degrees to begin the new work-week...next week! Thats a look at your Monday morning weather! Take care, have a great day and Ill see you again tomorrow morning around 6am!
