Good Monday morning! Well, that area of rain and snow did blow - TopicsExpress

Good Monday morning! Well, that area of rain and snow did blow through yesterday and the most rain/snow that we had on our SchoolNet sites was .15 at the Rolling Hills Elementary SchoolNet site in far NW Amarillo. We had a few sites, including Highland Park High School with .10 along with Lorenzo De Zavala MS. The good news is that this entire week will be mild to unseasonably warm...and dry. So, NO rain or snow this week...and that includes the biggest travel day of the year on Wednesday, Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday and Saturday too! Ill talk about a cool-down as you head back home from Grandmas house on Sunday. For today, we have some cloud cover to deal with this morning, but it is decreasing as I type and it might be completely gone by the time the sun rises. Regardless, it will be a lightly cooler day than average, but not by much! The 30-year average high temperature for today is 56 degrees and our forecast high for Amarillo is 53. Winds will blow from the west this morning at 10-20 mph, then shift around to the northwest at 5-15 mph this afternoon as a surface trough of low pressure pushes through. Ive attached the NAM (North American Computer Model), HRRR (High Resolution Rapid Refresh Computer Model) and the KVII Computer Model forecast for this afternoon showing all the rain east of us around Florida and the snow well northwest of us in the Colorado Rockies. So, everything is nice and quiet around here. Tonight, we may see the cloud cover thicken back up as yet another, fast-moving upper-level disturbance (pocket of cold air aloft) pushes through. This will give us partly to mostly cloudy skies and overnight lows varying from as cold as 20 degrees in Dalhart to 31 degrees in Childress. Winds will blow lightly from the north and northwest at 5-15 mph tonight. Tomorrow (Tuesday) will be about as warm as today with high temperatures varying from 59 degrees in Childress to 52 degrees in Clovis and Clayton. Winds will blow from the northwest tomorrow morning at 5-15 mph, then shift around to the southwest at 15-25 mph with some higher gusts possible tomorrow afternoon. Skies will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies. Wednesday, the biggest travel day of the year, will feature plenty of sunshine and fantastic weather conditions to drive to Grandmas house! Around here, we will see mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies with high temperatures in the 50s to around 60 degrees by late day. Winds will blow from the southwest in the morning at 5-15 mph, then shifting around to the north in the afternoon as as weak surface trough of low pressure pushes through. Be careful, drive safe and watch out for the other guy while going to Grandmas house! Thanksgiving Day looks fantastic as well with even warmer high temperatures in the 60s to around 70 degrees with southwest winds at 5-15 mph, then increasing to the 10-20 mph range from the south at 10-20 mph in the afternoon hours. Skies will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy. So, the weather will be great to eat that turkey, then go outside and play football with the relatives! Enjoy! Last week, it looked like it was going to be COLD and SNOW on Black Friday. Well, that seems like a long time ago as now, our skies will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy with high temperatures rising to around 70 by late day! Winds will blow from the west at 10-20 mph throughout the day with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies prevailing. So, get out there, spend some money and support the LOCAL economy with your purchases! Saturday will also be unseasonably warm with high temperatures all the way into the lower to mid 70s! Winds will blow from the west at 10-20 mph under mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies. Again, another day to head outdoors and enjoy the unseasonably warm weather! It will turn colder on Sunday thanks to a cold front that will blow through during the morning hours shifting our winds around to the north and northeast at 10-20 mph. So, heading back home from Grandmas house will be colder....into the 40s to around 50 degrees by late day. Skies will be partly to occasionally mostly cloudy as well, making it look and feel cold. As we go back to work and school on Monday, it will start to warm back up to around 60 degrees by late day as partly cloudy skies prevail. Winds will swing around to the south at 10-20 mph. Ive attached the Canadian Computer Model, European Computer Model and GFS (Global Forecasting System, or American Model) showing what they think the weather will be like for NEXT Wednesday. Yes, its going to be THAT long before any rain or snow is possible. The storm system is primarily east of us and we will see the wrap-around rain or snow as the storm system moves away. Remember what happened yesterday? Thats what might happen next Wednesday. Stay tuned....this is many days away and as we have seen, this forecast can and will change! Thats a look at your weather this Monday morning! Take care, stay warm and Ill see you tomorrow morning around 6am!
