Good Morning Friends, Although, Shabbat Pinchas has passed, I hope you enjoy this reading about the consciousness of well-being and dis-ease, and prepare for the next time it comes. I did! The kabbalists teach that in truth our soul and our body are, for the most part, not at peace with each other. It is said, for instance, at almost every breath we take our soul wants to leave our body because our soul comes from the essence of the Light of the Creator. It is pure. It is Light. Our body is exactly the opposite and how we use our body is often the opposite. Every single time we act in a way of Desire to Receive for the Self Alone, in a selfish way or in a way that hurts another person, our soul can’t take it and wants to leave. Nevertheless, because the Creator wants to allow us the process of correction or tikun, the Creator literally says to the soul, “Please, do me a favor and go back and reside within that body.” But for most people—and depending on the level of selfishness, ego and actions of Desire to Receive for the Self Alone—their body and soul are not at peace. Everything we experience in life, from the smallest amount of sadness to the greatest amount of pain, stems from one reason; that we have made our soul uncomfortable in our body. Every single time we act in ways of Desire to Receive for the Self Alone, that we act in ways of selfishness or act with our ego, we are making our soul that much less comfortable in our body and it manifests, God forbid, as physical disease, sadness, depression and in every other way in our lives, but it stems from one thing: that we continually make our soul uncomfortable in our body. What happens on Shabbat Pinchas and what is the Light of this Shabbat? Pinchas was willing to completely give up even his physical life to help others or save another life. He gave up his ego and transformed himself completely to the extent that his soul wanted to reside in his body forever because his body became like his soul. Pinchas’ ego was transformed and his selfishness was completely changed. There is one way to have peace; the continual process of transformation where next time we have the desire to act in anger or in a way of the Desire to Receive for the Self Alone we stop and say, “One second. I’m going to make my soul that much more uncomfortable in my body and that’s not going to be good for me because my soul both will want to leave and it will manifest in all kinds of negative ways in my life.” Now we understand that peace is not just getting along with others, but also our soul getting along with our body. This peace removes disease. It removes all forms of negativity that manifest from the dis-ease of our soul within our body. Pinchas is here with us on this Shabbat and willing to give us the gift of peace for free, meaning that even if we have not earned peace between our body and our soul through our own spiritual transformation he is here to give it to us, but that’s not enough. If we leave Shabbat Pinchas and immediately begin acting in ways that make our soul uncomfortable in our body, this gift of peace will slowly, but surely leave us. Therefore, again, we must be conscious of two things: First, understanding the consciousness of the great gift of peace that is given to us on Shabbat Pinchas, especially during the Third Meal Connection, and the Light of peace, which means peace between the body and the soul and the removal of all the previous actions of selfishness, of Desire to Receive for the Self Alone that have made our soul uncomfortable within our body. The second thing we have to do is commit to stop making our soul uncomfortable in our body, which means that after Shabbat Pinchas, the first time we have the desire to act in a selfish way we say, “One second. I both received a gift and I know the effect that’s going to happen. Where does disease come from, whether mental, physical or in any area of life? When the soul begins to desire to leave the body it leaves an empty space where all kinds of negativity can come in. If I act in this way my soul will not want to remain in my body. “ So yes, we receive the great gift of peace on Shabbat Pinchas. We receive the removal of that dis-ease of the soul within the body, but more importantly after receiving this gift don’t continue making the soul uncomfortable because every single time we make our soul desire to leave the body it opens a space into which all kinds and all forms of negativity can enter. This is a tremendous opportunity that comes only once a year. May we all merit to both receive it and more importantly hold onto it.
