Good Samaritan for hapless Pakistan Hindus ! Salute to Shri Nahar Singh JI Pakistan is not going to be a theocratic State ....We have Hindus, Christians, and Parsis but they are all Pakistanis. They will enjoy the same rights and privileges as any other citizen and will play their rightful part in the affairs of Pakistan.” — Mohammed Ali Jinnah If only Jinnah was around today. Scores of Pakistani Hindus are making their way into India, alleging oppression and abuse. It’s a trickle that refuses to dry up and a house in Delhi’s Bijwasan is where many have been taking refuge. They live as “guests” of Nahar Singh, a Customs and Excise official, in his 28-room house. In December 2011, Singh invited 145 Hindu refugees to move into his residence after he learnt that they were living in North Delhi slums; 480 more followed. “More are on their way,” Singh says. He promises to take care of the meals and expenses, if needed, of the refugees until they settle in. He adds that Hindu groups have chipped in. Dayal Pahlaj Kori, 37, his wife and seven children are among the 480 Pakistanis who crossed the border in March. They have decided not to return. “It was the most difficult decision of my life. I had to leave everything,” said Kori. The Pakistani Hindus came with visas to attend the Mahakumbh at Allahabad. They now want either ‘refugee’ status or permanent citizenship. “Being a pauper in India is much better than suffering a life of indignity and torment in Pakistan,” says Kori. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and chief secretary to Delhi government, demanding reports on the plight of refugees. “The commission is concerned about their living conditions. The plight of children is worrisome...,” an NHRC official said. Eight to 10 Hindu families migrate from Pakistan every month, said one official. The migrants have filed petitions in courts, written to the President, Ministry of Law and Justice, NHRC, MEA, and the United Nations demanding citizenship. More people are leaving to escape kidnappings, killings and forced conversions. According to the Pakistan Hindu Seva, at least 10 families migrate from Sindh a month. In the last 10 months, 400 families have left Pakistan. hinducurrents/articles/share/126637/
