Good Sunday morning from beautiful Davie Florida. We hope everyone - TopicsExpress

Good Sunday morning from beautiful Davie Florida. We hope everyone is enjoying their weekend and this incredibly beautiful weather. Yesterday was a crazy day here at the grove, as mango season begins, we had customers lined up all day for fruit and trees. Thank you to all who came by and for the great support. We will open at 10 am today and be ready for another hectic day. Some very disturbing news came across Facebook and Twitter yesterday as news broke of Publix supermarkets making a move to buy Whole foods. Immediately a red flag went up for me. I have always believed that the consumers demand for higher quality and organic foods, as well as superior customer service has and will continue to take a bite out of the profit margins of the Big Box Bandits. While we know that the Mega-corpororations are and have been trying to copycat these upstart new comers, we think a new direction will be taken by them. Simply, we cant beat them, BUY them! This does not bode well for the future of competition and customer service. Where will this end? Will the Bandits start buying real estate to put farmers markets out of business? Anything is possible when you have billions to spend on crushing competition, which is much easier for them than actually providing customer service and superior products. We have seen this before, try to find a mom and pop hardware store, or a kids shoe store, they have gone by way of the Dodo bird as the Walmarts and Hope Depot of the world have swallowed them up with Chinese made cheap products and poor service. We tend to be our own worst enemies as we seek convenience instead of quality and service. This will be interesting to see how this Publix/Whole Foods play plays out. Having spent over 10 years in the auto industry where this same mentality is prevalent, I know from where i speak. Bigger is not better, it just leads to inferior quality and mind numbing poor service. Good luck to those who enjoy what made Whole Foods successful, Whos next Trader Joes?, Your local farmers market? The company you may work for? Time will tell, the power is not in the billions these Big Box Bandits are willing to spend to devour the competition, the power lies in us who must continue to demand the very best in product and service and have the intestinal fortitude to push aside convenience and demand service and quality! Support local agriculture! From seed to tree, plant to plate and farm to market, we grow for you!
