Good afternoon Zane, Im at a crossroads and not sure what to do. See Im in somewhat of a complicated relationship. Weve been together for almost 5 yrs comin up in December. The problem is hes locked up now. Has been for 3 yrs. Hes not a bad guy. Hes very intelligent, loving, kind hearted. In fact he has helped me to discover and get help for my bi polar I never knew I had. He has also connected me better with the Lord. The problem Im having Zane is he was just moved to prison a month and as half ago. So no more phone calls or visits. All I have to look forward to are his letters and I dont get many of those. Im hurting inside. My heart is breaking. I feel like Im losing him. Maybe its my own insecurity. Hes always encouraging me and telling me to be strong and well get through this. Tells me he appreciates all that I do and have done for him. I have been by his side this whole time. Right now it has become the most difficult though because of the lack of contact and communication. I dont know what to do. I love him and would hate to lose him. It would shatter my world. What advice do you have for me? Please keep this anonymous. MY RESPONSE: Darling, listen, and I truly hope you do listen. I understand that you love the man and that he helped make a positive difference in your life at one point but to place your entire life into a holding pattern for years on end truly makes no sense. Now that you can only communicate through letters makes it ten times worse. He made whatever decisions he made that landed him in prison and it is unfair for him to expect you to continue to wait for him to get out. If he recently got moved to prison, that likely means that he is facing some serious time. Life your life! Open your heart to the possibilities of other men! You are not required to do hard time with him. You can always make that choice but you obviously want more for yourself so seize it and do not feel guilty about it. You are entitled to happiness.
