Good and bad people are there in every sect. Most of the good souls (so called founders of religions) tried to follow a good path which lead to a peaceful life, equality among all and a life which is morally correct. By claiming that we belong to a particular religion when we claim that we are true followers of these people how can we be part of any riot which destroys peace of life of innocent people. Most of the riots are motivated and executed by some extremists which affect lives of thousands. No one can change this and it will continue till we are alive and even after that. Even forming another religion or belief is not going to help. As we act as blind when it comes to religion but the truth is we are no where close to motive of those good souls who started the movements which we later renamed as religion.
