Good article/review. CHRISTIANITY TODAY is conservative [bought - TopicsExpress

Good article/review. CHRISTIANITY TODAY is conservative [bought thoughtful and not reactionary or fundamentalist in nature] and the review is written by a professor in a Christian college who is theologically astute and also versed in the arts and the concepts motion pictures communicate in many different ways. Now I am really looking forward to seeing the movie. Theology people know that a flood account pops up in various ancient religious traditions, Epic of Gilgamesh being the most famous, and also the very old Eridu Genesis written in Sumerian cuneiform, [but also found in a Sumerian King List, Ziusudra and also in Atrahasis, the Akkadian/Babylonian account, in the account of Manu, the first man of the Hindu sacred writings, versions found among Central American cutures including the Mayans, in South America and among Native North Americans including the Ojibwa and even in Greek mythology]. They chose to make the movie about Noah though! Geological evidence of an all-pervasive flood in the Middle East has been evidenced scientifically by sediment layers discovered in many places that geologists date to just over 7,000 B.C. [nope, does not fit in with a super-conservative outlook on Bible dating but yet is very ancient nonetheless]. Finally, it looks gritty and real like THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST did. Mel Gibson did a masterful job with that and added quite a bit of non-biblical information to make it more interesting. Very violent and bloody, but people were then, especially Romans as they administered punishment and execution. People in that film looked realistic in a time with no indoor plumbing, no washing machine or laundry soap, no dry cleaners, no blow dryers or deodorant. The Noah movie looks real like that too - people in a real world with real struggles, real life and death issues, and mere survival each day. Review coming soon, for what it is worth - and still needing to see Son of God. Thanks Pastor Tom Sanders of Faith Lutheran Church in Arlington Heights IL for sharing the article originally!
