Good evening to our extended Dragoon family—it’s Wednesday already and under normal circumstances we would only be about half-way through our training week, but since we have Holiday Block leave coming up, we only have one more full training day left. After that we are going to work hard all day long on Friday to get folks on planes, trains and automobiles—headed home for the holidays. The only wild card right now is the weather as we expect a large amount of snow tonight, but we believe that it will be melted and gone well before Friday. And now the update: Alpha Company (Week 8): Alpha Company worked on “Dragoon Stakes” today which was a series of individual tasks aligned with the Army’s Warrior Tasks and Battle Drills. Tonight after dinner the company will head out to the Night Infiltration Course and meet up with Foxtrot Company where they will both be subjected to the sights and sounds of combat—crawling under barbed wire with machineguns firing overhead. It will definitely be a very exciting evening. Bravo Company (Week 4): The Bulldogs worked in classrooms this morning focused on learning the specifics of land navigation and finding their way from place to place with a map and compass. After lunch they went to one of our local training areas, split up into teams, and found points hidden in the woods utilizing their newly learned skills. After the sun goes down tonight they will again repeat this process, only now they will be expected to do it in the dark. I am sure they are going to have a lot of fun. Charlie Company (Graduation Week): The Comanches are currently off with their loved ones enjoying Family Day. They will get back later tonight and get ready for the big day tomorrow, walking across the stage as graduates! Delta Company (Week 4): Dawg Company spent their second day out at the range today working on Grouping and Zeroing. They need to stay focused and remember what they’ve learned over HBL, because rifle qualification will be waiting for them when they get back and it will be a challenging event. Foxtrot Company (Week 9): The Warriors ended FTX III today earlier this morning. After lunch they donned their heavy packs and started out on their ten-mile foot march in full combat equipment. They will end the foot march at Range 4 and then go straight into the Night Infiltration Course with Alpha Company. Upon completion they will immediately go into their Rite of Passage Ceremony where we will welcome them into the Profession of Arms—and they will no longer be “trainees” and officially become U.S. Army Soldiers!
