Good morning, Father God . . . As we pray through the New - TopicsExpress

Good morning, Father God . . . As we pray through the New Testament, we come to Hebrews 4:14-6:8. Grow our confidence in You, Father God; grow our conviction in Your truth. Enable us to “hold fast our confession,” as the writer of Hebrews puts it, as we grow to wholly and completely trust Jesus, our high priest. Indeed, He knows all about the challenges we face on earth, and as high priest He is able to guide us to You in times of need: “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (3:15-16). Thank You that Jesus serves as high priest on our behalf, “after the order of Melchizedek” (5:6), the priest who ministered in Abraham’s day. Heavenly Father, grow us in character and faith. Forgive us for the extent to which this is true about us: “About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food” (5:11-12). Enable us to eat this solid food, to “distinguish good from evil,” to become spiritually mature. Thus, as we face challenges like the Hebrews who first received this letter, may we stand firm in the faith and remain confident in our convictions, for we have “tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come” (6:5). Father God, I see what does please You—the growing extent to which I put my trust in Jesus, follow my Great High Priest before the throne of grace regardless of outer circumstances, find mercy and grace in times of need. May I live there, Lord, ever knowing, growing, and showing Jesus in everyday life!
