I took a stab at this whole Being A Writer thing today. I took a short story I wrote back in high school, rewrote and revamped it, and submitted it for a contest hosted by Narrative Magazine. As most of my closest friends know, getting me to let you read something I have written generally takes a lot of convincing...sometimes months worth of convincing. Sometimes, you have to uncurl my fingers from around the pages and run before I can catch you to take it back. Somehow, I convinced myself that sending my writing to a bunch of strangers was easier, but nonetheless stressful. I can honestly say as I sit here that I am a little shellshocked. I dont want to get my hopes up, but I am proud of myself for not just letting the oppurtunity slip by. I am hopeful for good feedback, but willing to accept the rejection. I often tell people that when I do things that terrify me that I am not sure if I am being brave or I am a glutton for punishment. I like to think, that this time, Im being brave. :)
