On a Sad note this morning, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Sunday morning lost one of his sons in a car crash. Confirming the incident, El-Rufai in a statement posted on his Facebook page wrote: “From Allah, we came and to Him we shall return. Please join our family in praying for the repose of the soul of my son, Hamza El-Rufai who died this morning in a motor accident in Abuja.” 1b. Kano was the focus of the entire country on Monday when two suicide bombers blew up themselves at different locations in the state. Few people as well as the bombers were killed in the blasts while several others sustained injuries. While one of the incidents occurred at the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Mega station at Hotoro Quarters along Maiduguri Road, the second occurred about 1.40pm at the Trade Fair Complex entrance on Zoo Road. 2.The Lagos State Government has announced that about 59 persons were in contact with the only Ebola victim who died recently in the state. The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, who made this known in Ikeja, explained that the number was made up of 44 health care workers and 15 others at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos. He said out of 55 known persons, 20 have been screened and released. 3. The Founder of Trinity House, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo, has claimed that he has found a cure to the deadly Ebola disease. He said only anointting and laying of hands would heal an Ebola victim. 4. A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Femi Falana, has requested for the removal of a retired Judge of the High Court, Justice Ebenezer Adebajo, from the committee inquiring into the cause of a recent civilian-military clash in Lagos. Falana in a letter to the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, had argued that the appointment of Adebajo as the head of the inquiry committee was not constitutional as the judge appears to be a biased individual. 5. The Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria on Monday raised the alarm over the Presidency’s plan to proscribed the Nigeria Medical Association and privatize all Federal Government owned hospitals. The Association said it had gathered from its secretariat that if the proposal sailed through, soldiers would be drafted to secure all the medical institutions while paramilitary medical professionals would be deployed to perform similar roles as Doctor’s. 6. Nigeria got its third Gold medal Monday night in the ongoing Common Wealth Games, holding in Glasgow, USA when Blessing Okagbare finished top in the female 100 metres race. 7. Report says three persons have been electrocuted while several others were injured at a market in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State. The incident happened when an electric poll fell on them. 8. Some criminals who specialize in cheque forgery have been nabbed by Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, Lagos . Recovered from the suspects were two dud cheques, fake letter heads of the Ekiti State House of Assembly and that of the state’s Ministry of Finance and Economic Development which they allegedly wanted to use to secure United Kingdom visa. 9. Speaking on behalf of former Lagos state Governor, Bola Tinubu, his Media Aide, Sunday Dare, said PDP and Jonathan will be humiliated out of office in 2015. Tinubu was condemning the PDP and its leadership for playing politics with the lives of Nigerians, saying the party will not survive the wrath of Nigerians in the next elections. 10. Report says armed men have kidnapped an uncle to Chief Timipre Sylva, former governor of Bayelsa State. Sylva’s uncle, Chief Benson Ayerite Adigio-Eseni, 86 and a retired army major, was reportedly seized in the early hours of Monday in his country home, Okpoama, Brass Local Government Area of the state. 10b. Popular Nigerian singer, Bisade Ologunde, popularly known as Lagbaja, over the weekend reportedly turned down an offer by the Iyiola Omisore Campaign Organisation to perform at the grand reception for President Jonathan’s scheduled visit in Osogbo. The award-winning Afrobeat artiste was at the weekend quoted thus: Though the court of the land discharged and acquitted Omisore in the murder case against the former Minister of Justice in Nigeria, the late Cicero of Esa-Oke & foremost nationalist, Chief Bola Ige, I have deep-rooted innermost conviction that you are culpable in the death of my mentor and benefactor. If you offer me all the allocation of Osun State during your four-year-tenure peradventure you win (which I seriously doubt), I will not perform for Iyiola Omisore governorship election.”
