Good morning! I walked into the elevator of my apartment - TopicsExpress

Good morning! I walked into the elevator of my apartment building to see a Mother and her 3 kids. I was with my lovey Abby of course. Right away the three children looked horrified and back up into the corners of the elevator, the Mother I could see was also uncomfortable. It is not my responsibility to make others feel comfortable around my dog, though sometimes I will try out of sympathy. So I say with a gentle tone she is very friendly. To which I get a reply from the Mother No! I am so sick and tired of hearing that! They are always friendly until somebody gets bit! In shock I replied My dog is very friendly, I would never bring a dangerous dog into an elevator of three children and their Mother Her small minded remarks proceeded out of the apartment building and onto the sidewalk. Remarks such as You and your dog have no right living in an apartment building full of other people Usually, I dont give much response anymore to these types of people and I wouldnt ever argue with someone in front of their kids. However, it bothered me to see how terrified her 3 kids were of my 8 month old puppy. If I am silent, these kids will likely continue to believe their Mothers twisted view of thinking. If I speak up and maybe its too late but maybe my words will make a difference in the childrens thinking one day and Im sure I wont be the last dog owner to have a similar conversation with this woman. Kids should not live in fear of companions, of our best friends, our family members, our guardian angels. So I said You have created fear of dogs in your children for the rest of their lives I write to bring awareness to the discrimination towards my family members, my best friends. #dontbullymybreed
